Niklas, August 1999

My
Name is Niklas vom Löwengarten.
I was born an the 19.06.1999 at the House of Rahel & Kaarina Schale in Drochtensen
Hüll. In August 1999 my new Owners picked me up in the North of Germany
to bring me to my new Home close to the River Ruhr.
I life here with my Leo-Pal Janosch, British-Shorthaired Cat Lisa, Turkish Van
Cat Aykan and of course our Owners. Very soon I felt at home, I realy like it
here. Many long walks in the Woods and the surrounding area of Rhein and Ruhr.
We always meet lots of Dog to play with, I like meeting new Dogs, never mind
if big or small, where the small one`s I think are allowed to do what ever they
like. I Especially like the females - and when a nice Leo-Girl askes me to prove
my talents as stud-dog. Of course I give my best not to disappoint the Lady,
I have never heared any complaints.
Up to now I have descentdants in the Netherlands, Norway, Germany and Belgium.
Furtunately I didn´t pass on my missing M3´s to my Kids. My Owners
always asked direktly after the change of Teeth. Because my Owners pay a lot
of attention where the Charakter is concerned(they had a bad Experiance with
there fist Leonberger Carlos) we are very happy that every Breeder and new Puppie
owner is praising the good Charakter of my descentdants. Because Janosch and
I are always with our Owners, even during the
Holidays, my life is not boring at all. If it was Scandinavia, Swisserland,
or Italy we travel comfortable in the big Dog compartment in the Car. You can
look at some nice Photos of our Holidays on our website. Never mind if it is
a Sightseeing tour around the City, a Walk on the Beach or a Trip through the
Mountains I always take part.
Nearly as much fun as a Holiday is a Trip to the Dog-Show. As soon as it is
Showtime - I am in my Element. When my People pack the Trolley I know what is
going on. It all startet at the Puppieadvice in September 1999 in Leonberg.
There is a special Button on the website where you can see where I have already
been.
In the Meantime I achieved several Campiontitles. The absolut best is that I
twice got the first Place of the FCI Group 2 in the seat of honour, one even
was the second Place in "Best of Show". It was quite touching
for my Owners.
Sure - I am proud of success (just a little bit), but I know that for my Owners
the most important thing is, that I am a relaxed and stabil natured Leonberger,
fully able to walk relaxed through daily live on my four paws.
Update September 2006
In Rememberance
Today we would like to end the story about our beloved dog Niklas.
The picture of the swallowed Ball, shall be a warning to every dogkeeper, that even a harmless looking toy can be of great danger. On the 24. of August 2006 we have suddenly and unexpectedly lost our Companion and dearest Friend Niklas. Niklas loved Dog-Toys. So that that lead to his demise. For a few day`s he ait Grass and vomited back out. So we made an Appointment at the Vet for Ultrasound and if nessasery Endoscopie on August 22. The Ultrasound showed, that he was organicly absolutely ok. Therefore the Vet´s did an Endoscope test in his Stomach. Thereby they found that Niklas must have swallowed a Ball some time ago and that this ball was so hard and big that they had to operate to remove it.
Niklas war fine after the surgery and should have returned home on Friday afternoon. How ever on Thursday morning the Clinik called, and informed us, that Niklas collapsed for no apparent reason. The Vet, to whom we have absolut trust, tryed everything in his power, but Niklas had a Embolie ( blockage of a brainserving blood vessel), effected due to the surgery, which finaly caused his Death. In Niklas we lost more than just a dog, he was our friend an partner, and due to him being sucssessful at exhibitions an being a stud-dog he changed our life. Through him we became aquainted with many nice keepers of Leonbergers all over the world, who we now an call our friends. Even if we don´t see each other very often, there is always a lot to tell about our joint possession - the Leo´s- via Phone ane E-Mail, even language barriers were conquered by this. Other than that we have a good contact to many of the Puppieowners. We never secluded after Niklas did his "Duty", but were and are interested in the development of his descendants. We were always happy when the new Puppieowners had the chance to meet the father personally. Because our first Leonberger unfortunately was not blessed with a perfect character, we are very glad to hear from the new owners, that their dogs developed to be pleasant, open-minded familymembers. For us Niklas lives on in his descendants and we are very glad that in December 2005, thinking of our Janosch getting older, we decided to have a third dog. Maybe it was Destiny, we will never know, but it was the right desicion.
So therefore: we will never forget our Niklas as an lovely and pleasant Leonberger. He always showed calmness and sovereignty and could be taken everywhere, even in the biggest hurly-burly he stayed calm. We shall be very happy - if his son Luis inherited some of this good characteristics.
Let this be the occasion to thank Niklas´s breeders Rahel and Kaarina Schale for this wonderful dog.
